What is a Tostada?  

A tostada is basically a flat, crunchy tortilla that’s either toasted or fried. The word “tostada” means “toasted” in Spanish, and in Mexico and Latin America, tostadas are a staple, served with various proteins or enjoyed as sides. They pair perfectly with dishes like Mexican Street Corn or pozole. Essentially, tostadas are super versatile and delicious for endless toppings, making them ideal for a quick meal or a festive spread! 

How to Make Shrimp Tostadas

Making these shrimp tostadas is super quick and easy, taking just 15 minutes from start to finish. The key to their amazing flavor is our Signature Cajun Seasoned Prime Shrimp. Simply cook the pouch of shrimp in boiling water, and in a few minutes, you’ll have shrimp bursting with bold Cajun flavors. The blend of spices, paprika, and a touch of chili pepper adds a delicious kick without being overly spicy.

Ingredients

  • 6 corn tostadas 

  • 1 pouch Prime Shrimp Signature 

  • 1 cup refried beans

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 2 cups shredded lettuce

  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced

  • 1/2 cup pico de gallo or fresh salsa

  • 1/2 cup sour cream

  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

  • 1 lime, cut into wedges

Directions

  1. Turn the oven on broil.

  2. Cook the Prime Shrimp according to package directions. 

  3. In a small pot, warm the refried beans over medium heat until they are heated through and spreadable.

  4. Spread a layer of warm refried beans on each tostada. Sprinkle cheese on top, then place tostadas on the top rack of the oven to melt the cheese. Watch them closely, they burn quickly!

  5. Once cheese is melted and tostadas are crispy on the edges, add a layer of shredded lettuce on top of the beans, followed by lettuce, cooked shrimp, and pico de gallo. 

  6. Garnish and serve with avocado, sour cream, cilantro, and lime wedges.
